TRACECA cargo flow down
The global economic recession has caused a reduction
in transporting cargo along TRACECA, the Europe-Caucasus-Asia
transport corridor, this year. A certain revitalization was
reported only in June and July, Akif Mustafayev, head of
Azerbaijan`s national secretariat for TRACECA, told the Baku-based
Lider TV channel.
Mustafayev added, however, that this year`s volume of transported consignments will exceed the 2008 level.
TRACECA comprises 13 states - Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Moldova, Ukraine, and Romania. The European Commission-funded project aims to restore the historic Silk Road. Its first summit was held in Baku in 1998.
