Domestic appliances plants suspend ops in Azeri district
Those factories manufacturing television sets and
domestic appliances, based in Azerbaijan`s Shamakhy district, have
suspended operations for a month. Some 300 people employed at the
factories have been sent on mandatory leaves, according to Turgay
Ertac, the district coordinator of Star LLC, which owns the
plants.
Ertac said the measure was due to the halt in imports of raw materials to the country. Spare parts are purchased for the plants from South Korea and China, which have scaled down their supplies due to the economic crisis. Nonetheless, the coordinator pledged that the plants would resume operations in a month`s time and the workers would be reinstated.
The Shamakhy TV and domestic appliances plants have been in business since 2005.
