Azercell attends world GSM congress
The world`s cellular communication leaders are
holding an annual meeting of the World GSMA Congress in Barcelona
February 16-19. Azerbaijan is represented at the international
conference, which brings together representatives of more than 200
countries, by a delegation of cellular operator Azercell.
The GSMA Mobile World Congress has particular importance for the world of information and communication technologies. This event, indeed, shapes the future of cellular communication. The 2009 congress is expected to be wider in scale in comparison with the previous year due to the rising number of companies seeking to display their products. An estimated 50,000 representatives are participating at the congress.
Alongside executives of such giants as AT&T, Microsoft, Nokia, Telefonica, and TeliaSonera, the newly-appointed president of Azercell, Ali Agan, is attending the GSMA congress. Azerbaijan`s leading cellular operator is participating at the event for the third time.
Agan is also holding meetings with several world leaders in mobile communication technologies, including Rob Conway, Head of the GSM Association.
The event is also attended by world-famous Hollywood star and film director Kevin Spacey, who will deliver a speech regarding the emerging "mofilm" industry, which implies movies created with cellular phones.
During the congress, senior business executives of top companies will lead seminars on various topics for participants. Participants are discussing mobile innovation, environmental systems, the impact of the global financial crisis on cellular operators, the world of mobile communication and business, etc.
The aim of the congress is to accomplish globalization of mobile phone and wireless communication services, open up new opportunities for operators and mobile equipment suppliers, and boost the development of mobile communication, which crosses national borders and networks.
Currently, the number of GSM Association members exceeds 2 billion. The World GSMA Congress combines not only various seminars and forums, but also the world`s largest exhibition of mobile industries. This year, such companies as Ericsson, Yahoo!, Motorola, MySpace, and Vodafone are among participants.
