MP: People's dependence on banks should be weakened
By Amina Nazarli
Head of Azerbaijan Railways, MP Javid Gurbanov believes in necessity of weakening the dependence of Azerbaijani citizens from the banks.
“It is necessary to weaken the dependence of Azerbaijani
citizens from the banks and, on the contrary, increase the
dependence of banks from citizens,” he said during the meeting of
the Parliamentary Committee for Economic Policy, Enterprise and
Industry on October 21.
“The banks say and do what they want,” according to Gurbanov.
Azerbaijan closed down ten banks in 2016 as the former Soviet Union’s third-largest crude exporter faced the low oil prices.
The MP went on saying that Azerbaijan needs to increase the export of domestic products to foreign markets, thereby reducing dependence on imports.
Gurbanov also considers it necessary to make serious changes in the tax system and broaden the tax base.
“It is necessary to toughen it [tax policy]. Everyone must pay taxes. But it’s necessary to soft tax rates for some segments of population, so they pay taxes according to their income,” he said.
