By Bloomberg

European stocks climbed after their biggest weekly drop in more than a month.

The Stoxx Europe 600 Index rose 0.4 percent to 387.74 at 9:01 a.m. in London. Greece’s ASE Index rallied 1.4 percent, the most among western-European markets, after German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she’s confident the International Monetary Fund will join the nation’s third bailout program and signaled willingness to consider debt relief to help make it happen.

The Stoxx 600 pared an advance of as much as 1.1 percent as Glencore Plc led commodity producers down.

Retailers in the Stoxx 600 rose the most among industry groups. Hennes & Mauritz AB added 1.6 percent as July sales beat estimates.

Alstom SA jumped 5.7 percent after a report that General Electric Co. is expected to win European Union approval for its acquisition of assets from the French company. Airbus Group SE gained 1.5 percent after IndiGo, India’s biggest airline, confirmed it will buy as many as 250 if its planes.

France’s CAC 40 Index advanced 0.6 percent on Monday for the second-biggest gain among western-European markets.

The Stoxx 600 lost 2.7 percent last week after China’s devaluation of its currency raised concerns about repercussions on exporters. Benchmark gauges of Germany and France were among those that dropped the most. On Friday, after three days of moves exceeding 1 percent, some calm returned to equities, and the Stoxx 600 ended little changed, with volume of shares traded 24 percent lower than the 30-day average.
