Gains in commodity producers and Ryanair Holdings Plc pushed European stocks higher as some markets reopened after a holiday.

Rio Tinto Group gained 1.5 percent after a development plan showed it seeks to raise as much as $6 billion to expand a Mongolian mine. Ryanair rallied 4.7 percent after Europe’s biggest discount carrier said annual profit jumped and forecast an increase in the following year. EasyJet Plc rose 2 percent.

The Stoxx Europe 600 Index climbed 0.5 percent to 408.54 at 8:11 a.m. in London, less than 1.4 percent away from a record reached in April. The European gauge fell yesterday amid low volumes, dragged down by Spanish and Greek stocks. Markets in the U.K., Germany and Switzerland resumed trading on Tuesday.

The equity benchmark has jumped this year, buoyed by the European Central Bank’s quantitative-easing program. It’s up 3.2 percent in May, poised for its biggest monthly advance since February.

Investors are awaiting fresh developments in Greek bailout talks, with its government due to pay about 300 million euros ($327 million) to the International Monetary Fund at the end of next week. The country’s finance minister blamed creditors’ insistence on more austerity for the impasse.

The IBEX 35 Index fell 0.3 percent for a third day of losses. Spain’s benchmark gauge tumbled yesterday after the country’s local elections showed support for parties seeking to overturn the political establishment.

Reports in the U.S. today may show durable-goods orders fell in April, while new home sales increased after a slump in March. Data will also show consumer confidence decreased slightly in May, economists forecast.
