European stock-index futures decline as investors weigh earnings
By Bloomberg
European stock-index futures declined, after equities extended a four-week loss yesterday, as investors weighed corporate results. U.S. stock-index futures and Asian shares also fell.
Total SA may be active after the energy company's chief executive officer died when his airplane struck a snowplow on a Moscow runway. Akzo Nobel NV may move after Europe's largest paintmaker reported lower-than-estimated third-quarter profit. Actelion Ltd. may be active after raising its full-year forecast a second time. Swedbank AB may move after posting net income and net interest income that surpassed analysts' estimates.
Futures on the Euro Stoxx 50 Index expiring in December fell 0.4 percent to 2,911 at 7:16 a.m. in London. Contracts on the U.K.'s FTSE 100 Index dropped 0.1 percent. Standard & Poor's 500 Index futures lost 0.4 percent. The MSCI Asia Pacific Index declined 0.4 percent as better-than-estimated Chinese growth and production data damped prospects for wide-scale stimulus to spur expansion.
The Stoxx 600 lost 0.5 percent yesterday after SAP SE cut its full-year earnings forecast and Royal Philips NV's third- quarter sales and profit missed estimates. The index posted losses for each of the four weeks through Oct. 17 as European equities led a rout that erased as much as $5.5 trillion from global equities since September amid growing concern that a potential recession in Europe will undermine growth as the U.S. Federal Reserve winds down stimulus.
Some 10 companies on the Stoxx 600, including ARM Holdings Plc and Enagas SA, report results today.
Total CEO
Total may be active. Christophe de Margerie died at Moscow's Vnukovo Airport in the crash that also killed three crew members and the driver of the plow, the French company said in a statement.
Akzo Nobel may move. Operating profit rose 11 percent to 335 million euros ($430 million), the Amsterdam-based company said today in a statement. The average forecast of analysts surveyed by Bloomberg had estimated 387 million euros.
Actelion may move. Core earnings will increase in a low- twenties percentage range at constant exchange rates, compared with a previous forecast for growth in the mid-teen percentage range, the Allschwil, Switzerland-based drugmaker said.
Swedbank may be active. Sweden's largest mortgage lender reported third-quarter net income of 4.56 billion kronor ($636 million), topping the 4.23 billion kroner estimated by analysts. Net interest income of 5.83 billion kronor also beat projections that called for 5.63 billion kronor. The bank also said it will cut as many as 800 jobs.
