Akgul flies the flags as Russia sign off with a treble

Turkey's Taha Akgul rounded off six days of wrestling by winning gold in the freestyle heavyweights on Thursday night.

He then ran around the ring with the flags of his homeland and Azerbaijan, much to the delight of the crowd at the Heydar Aliyev Arena.

Akgul's easy win in the 125kg against Belarus's Aleksei Shemarov took Turkey to third place in the wrestling medal table behind Azerbaijan, who added three bronzes on the night, and the clear winners, Russia.

Three more golds took Russia's tally to 11, five more than the hosts. Aleksandr Bogomoev claimed their first, in the 61kg final, where he beat Georgia's Beka Lomtadze.

Magomedrasul Gazimagomedov triumphed in a close 70kg final, winning 2-1 against former national team-mate Magomedmurad Gadzhiev, who moved to Poland and switched allegiance two years ago.

Russia's Abdulrashid Sadulaev won the 86kg in emphatic style, overwhelming Piotr Ianulov of Moldova within 98 seconds to win on superiority.
