Azerbaijani athletes continue their successful performance at the inaugural European Games Baku 2015 as the fifth day of the competition starts on June 16.
The Azerbaijani team started competing on the 5th day of the Baku 2015 ranking the second in the overall rating with 16 medals 7 of which are gold. The country is following the Russian team with 15 medals, 9 of which are for the first place. Turkey with 4 gold and 12 overall medals is in the top three.
Azerbaijan’s coin box enjoys six medals from karate, four of which are gold and two are bronze, one bronze in triathlon, three gold, two silver and three bronze in wrestling and a bronze in gymnastics artistic.
Wrestler Mariya Stadnyk was the last athlete to bring gold to Azerbaijan on June 15.
Today, Azerbaijan will compete for medals in Archery, Beach Volleyball, Boxing, Canoe Sprint, Shooting, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Water Polo and Wrestling.
Baku 2015 European Games is an innovative competition that gathered over 6,000 athletes from 50 countries to compete in 20 sports. Twelve sports will provide licenses for Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Baku.
The magnificent opening ceremony of the Games warmed hearts of Azerbaijanis and showed the history of the country around the world on June 12. The event will last until June 28.
