Baku 2015: two Azerbaijani karatekas reach finals

Two Azerbaijani karatekas have reached the finals within the first European Games in Baku.

Azerbaijani karatekas Firdovsi Farzaliyev (category of up to 60 kg) and Rafael Agayev (category up to 75 kilograms) gained victory in the contests with Macedonian Emil Pavlov (8:0) and German Noah Bitsch (1:0) and secured spots in the finals.

In the finals, Farzaliyev will compete with Italian karateka Luca Maresca, while Agayev will meet with other Italian representative – Luigi Busa.

The karatekas Niyazi Aliyev (67 kg) and Ilaha Gasimova (55 kg) suffered defeats in their matches, as Aliyev lost to Turkish Burak Uygur (1:4), while Gasimova was defeated by French female karateka Emily Thouy.

Baku 2015 is the first ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent which kicked off on June 12.

There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.

The First European Games will last till June 28.

Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees in December 2012.
