European Games to popularize not only Azerbaijan, but also Caucasus

An event dedicated to the First European Games in Baku has been held in Georgian Technical University, the Azerbaijani State Committee on Work with Diaspora said June 10.

The event was organized by “Borchali Ireli” Public Union.

The event was aimed to popularize the Fist European Games among Georgian and foreign students of the university.

During the event, head of the public union Mahabbat Imanov briefed the participants about the upcoming major sports event in Baku.

He said that the First European Games is the symbol of peace and development.

The student of Tbilisi State University, Giorgi Danelia, in turn, noted that the First European Games in Baku is a kind of novelty for the whole world.

He said holding of such a large-scale sports event in Azerbaijan will popularize not only the country, but the entire Caucasus region in the world.

Another student Vasig Rehviashvili said he considers the holding of the Games in Baku as the great victory of Azerbaijan.

Baku 2015 is the first ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent which will take place on June 12-28, 2015.

There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.

Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
