Israel sends largest ever delegation to inaugural European Games
Israel will be sending its largest ever sport delegation – 142
athletes – to the First European Games which will be held in Baku
on June 12-28, Jewish News reported.
The first-ever European Games, which is being hosted by Baku, will
feature 6000 athletes, more than 600,000 spectators and is expected
to attract a TV audience of more than a billion worldwide.
“Israeli winners of the triathlon, table tennis and shooting
competitions will automatically qualify for next summer’s Games,
while Israel will also be represented in three of the five
non-Olympic events, including 3×3 basketball and the sambo,” the
newspaper reported.
Baku 2015 is the first ever European Games, an exciting and
innovative multi-sport event for the continent which will take
place on June 12-28, 2015.
There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports
and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across
Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of
competition.
Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC)
in December 2012.
As the president of the Russian Olympic Committee, member of the
International Olympic Committee Alexander Zhukov said previously,
Russia will be represented by 360 athletes at the European Games.
He said Russian national team will participate in the competitions
on all kinds of sports, except athletics.
