Estonian team anchored by flagbearer Olympic wrestler
Estonia's 59-strong team for the Baku 2015 European Games will be led by flag bearer Heiki Nabi. The Greco-Roman wrestler has been chosen to carry the flag at the Games' Opening Ceremony on athletic merit.
The two-time world champion won Olympic silver in the 120kg weight class at London 2012.
The Estonian team also features a strong group of epee fencers. Nikolai Novosjolov is a two-time world champion while Julia Beljajeva won the 2013 individual European women's title and teamed up with fellow Baku-bound fencers Irina Embrich and Erika Kirpu for 2013 Team European gold and 2014 Team world silver medals.
Judoka Künter Rothberg claimed a European bronze medal in 2006 while Greco-Roman wrestler Ardo Arusaar and shooter Anzela Voronova both appeared at London 2012. Mountain Bike rider Maaris Meier competed at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, AzerTac state news agency reported.
Baku 2015 is the first-ever European Games, an exciting and
innovative multi-sport event for the continent that will take place
on June 12-28, 2015.
There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports
and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across
Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of
competition.
Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC)
in December 2012.
