Baku 2015 Torch comes to Naftalan

Two more cities enjoyed the Journey of the Flame of the inaugural Baku 2015 European Games as it reached Goranboy and Naftalan.

The Flame of the First European Games has arrived in Naftalan from Goranboy.

Earlier in Goranboy, the Flame was accepted by local athlete, Khayal Huseynov. Ten torchbearers then covered a 4km long route and carried the Flame into Heydar Aliyev Center to the sound of wild applause.

World champion Yalchin Garayev lit the flame of the European Games in Goranboy.

The event participants watched a footage highlighting the ceremony of the lighting of the Flame in Ateshgah temple.

A special commemorative lamp of the Baku 2015 was lit in the city as well.

At the symbolic gate of the European Games in Naftalan, the Flame was handed to employee of Naftalan City Executive Authority, Tural Mammadov. Ten torchbearers then started their 4km long route and carried the Flame into Heydar Aliyev Park to the sound of wild applause.

The coach of Naftalan Children and Youth Sports School, Fuad Aliyev lit a special commemorative lamp, which will remain lit and on display in Naftalan until the closing ceremony of the Games.

The event featured the demonstration of a footage highlighting the ceremony of the lighting of the Flame in Ateshgah temple.

Located 330 km from Baku, Naftalan city, is a well-known petroleum spa resort. It is the center of medical tourism in Azerbaijan. There is a unique Naftalan oil in the region which cannot be found anywhere else in the world. The viscous liquid with distinguished black-brown and brown color has a specific odor.

The uniqueness and high efficiency of the Naftalan oil has been confirmed by scientists. The oil has been used over a 100 years in the treatment of various diseases. The curative oil and natural factors such as favorable environmental conditions and clean pine air made this treatment very popular among locals. Moreover, tourists from around the world come here to treat musculoskeletal system diseases, neurological, urological, gynecological, skin and other diseases in both adults and children.

The Flame of Baku 2015 started its journey around the regions of Azerbaijan on April 26. Until June 12, it will visit about 60 regions and cheer thousands of locals with the spirit of the inaugural European Games.

Baku 2015 European Games will gather over 6,000 athletes from 50 countries to compete in 20 sports, including 16 Olympic.
