Berlin hosts presentation of Baku 2015 European Games

An event devoted to the first European Games was held at one of the famous cultural centers of Berlin, Bode Museum, on October 13.

The presentation was co-organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Azerbaijan's Embassy in Germany.

The participants were informed about the activity of the organizing committee chaired by Azerbaijan's First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva.

Minister of Youth and Sport of Azerbaijan Azad Rahimov, Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Germany Parviz Shahbazov, chairperson of the German Bundestag's South Caucasus Friendship Group Karin Strents and President of the German Olympic Committee Alfonse Hermann delivered a speech at the ceremony.

Shahbazov talked about the activities of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, headed by Aliyeva, and underscored the contributions the foundation has made to bilateral relations in the sphere of culture.

In his speech, Rahimov talked about Azerbaijan's rapid development and sportsmen's achievements on the international arena. He also mentioned Azerbaijan's hosting a number of high-level international competitions.

He provided information about the first European Games to be held in Baku.

At the ceremony, some information was given on the historical ties between Azerbaijan and Germany, works carried out by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation both within the country and beyond its borders towards preserving cultural heritage, agitating cultural relations and improving education conditions for the youth, and a documentary reflecting the preparation for the first European Games was demonstrated.

The event was attended by Director of the Heydar Aliyev Centre Anar Alakbarov, German state secretaries, deputies of the Bundestag, well-known political persons, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Germany, activists of the Azerbaijani Diaspora and representatives of the German press.

The first European games will take place from June 12 to 28, 2015. More than 6,000 athletes will compete in a total of 20 sports over the 17 days of competition next year, with newspapers, websites, radio and TV stations all committed to covering the games.
