Calls for Sargsyan to resign

By Mushvig Mehdiyev

Members of Armenia's oppositions party gathered in front of the presidential palace to protest President Serzh Sargsyan's policy.

Shouting "We are. against the Customs Union" the pro-European forces strictly opposed the current authorities' decision to join the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union.

Paruyr Hayrikyan, Leader of the National Self-Determination Union, in particular called Armenian President Sargsyan to "hand over the authority to European powers" and demanding the resignation of the incumbent president.

Hayrikyan threatened to go on hunger strike unless the president steps down by September 8. He added that he will allow doctors to examine him in order to be sure he eats absolutely nothing.

Armenian authorities' dependant foreign policy is the key reason for public instability as people are showing more and more intolerance towards it. They now regard the country's entry into the Customs Union as next barrier in their aspiration to free society and free country. So, the next few week may bring "hot" winter for Armenians given that the final decision on the country's entry into the EEU will be hopefully made in Minsk on October 10.
