Armenia invents fairy tales to justify its failure in Nakhchivan

By Rashid Shirinov

Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry has recently disseminated a video about the liberation from Armenian occupation of more than 11,000 hectares and the village of Gunnut in Nakhchivan Authonomous Republic.

Thus, the operation of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces to relocate to advantageous positions along the state border was successfully accomplished and the goal was achieved.

Predictably, this caused a new hysteria in Armenia. Even before the video was published, the Armenian Defense Ministry invented a fairy tale in this regard: “Azerbaijan asked Armenia to allow its citizens to visit the cemetery in Gunnut, and Armenia allowed it.” It is doubtful whether someone in Armenia believed this outright lie.

After the video of Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry was disseminated, the Press Secretary of Armenia’s Defense Ministry Artsrun Hovannisyan had nothing left but to threaten peaceful Azerbaijanis - residents of the border areas.

“From now on, Azerbaijani troops and the lives of their shepherds and farmers are under threat,” he told Armenian media. Thus, Armenia’s Defense Ministry has once again demonstrated that, contrary to the law of war, the Armenian army intends to continue its villainy and attempts to attack the peaceful population of Azerbaijan.

The Armenian version of the events in Nakhchivan can only cause irony, Azerbaijani military expert, retired Colonel Shair Ramaldanov has told Day.az.

“Especially the part about the alleged humanism of the Armenian side shown to those wishing to visit the graves of the ancestors. This sudden surge of humanism is too uncharacteristic of the Armenian occupiers, who did not feel pity or compassion for the Azerbaijani children and the elderly during the war,” he noted.

Ramaldanov stressed that the operation of the Azerbaijani Army did not include special military actions, and all the actions were clear and competent.

“Heights around the village were taken, thus bringing it under the full control of the Azerbaijani side; roads were laid and now the issues of restoration of infrastructure and return of civilians are being addressed,” he said.

The expert noted that the Azerbaijani troops did not cross the state border – they took control only over those parts of the Azerbaijani territory that were occupied by Armenia in the early 1990s

“Certain actions, intelligence activities and measures to improve posts and to advance them to a more advantageous positions were performed. As a result, the Armenian side had to move their positions back,” Ramaldanov said.

Thus, the Azerbaijani Army has made it clear that, in contrast to the Armenian army, it is not going to cross the internationally recognized borders, but intends to take back only the territories that belong to Azerbaijan under international law. Sooner or later, the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions will be similarly liberated if the Armenian side renounces to withdraw its armed forces from the Azerbaijani lands.
