Armenian provocation leaves one dead, Azerbaijan says

The Azerbaijani Armed Forces has suffered a loss as a result of an Armenian provocation on the frontline on October 22.

A soldier of Azerbaijan's army Zeynalov Jabbar Firuddin oglu was killed due to the Armenian armed forces' violations of the ceasefire, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported. The leadership of the Ministry expressed deep condolences to the families and relatives of the martyr.

The statement by the ministry also noted that the criminal military and political leadership of Armenia bears the full responsibility for the enemy’s provocations on the frontline.

Over the past 24 hours, Armenia’s armed forces have 132 times violated the ceasefire along the line of contact between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops. Such violations, aimed against Azerbaijani military positions and civilian settlements near the frontline, take place every day. The Armenian militaries use large-caliber machine guns, mortars and grenade launchers during these provocations. Moreover, Armenian units regularly try to carry out acts of sabotage on the contact line between the troops and by this aggravate the situation.

Thus, despite the calls of Azerbaijani side, as well as the international community to follow the armistice, Armenia continues its destructive actions hereby showing its disrespect to the peace process over the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Since a war in the early 1990s, Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions. More than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and over 1 million were displaced as a result of the large-scale hostilities.

Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding districts.
