OSCE to hold monitoring on contact line of troops

The OSCE mission will hold a monitoring on the contact line of troops of Azerbaijan`s Aghdam region on December 8 in accordance with the mandate of the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office.

Azerbaijan`s Defense Ministry reported on December 7 that the monitoring will be held on the Azerbaijani side by field assistants of Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Jiri Aberle, Peter Svedberg and Simon Tiller.

On the Azerbaijani territories occupied by Armenian troops, the monitoring will be conducted by field assistants of Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Ghenadie Petrica and Hristo Hristov.

For over two decades, Azerbaijan and Armenia have been locked in conflict which emerged over Armenia's territorial claims against its South Caucasus neighbor. Since a war in the early 1990s, Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions.

Two decades of talks mediated by the OSCE MG group have failed to produce a breakthrough, and the renewed hostilities, the worst since the ceasefire deal signed in 1994, were assessed as the result of inactivity of the international community.
