Defense Ministry: Armenia aggravates situation on front line using mortars, grenade launchers
By Rashid Shirinov
Starting from the evening of October 30, the Armenian armed units fired the Azerbaijani positions in the North-Western direction of the contact line, the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan stated on October 31.
The statement reads that the attacks were carried out from 60-millimeter mortars, grenade launchers and automatic grenade launchers of AGS-17 type. However, the enemy was silenced by a decisive response from the Azerbaijani armed forces.
The Defense Ministry once again emphasized that all the responsibility for the escalation of situation on the frontline falls on Armenia's leadership.
Armenian armed forces almost every day violate the ceasefire with Azerbaijan from various positions on the contact line of the troops. On the night of October 30 the Armenian armed units shattered ceasefire with Azerbaijan a total of 45 times.
Armenia broke out a lengthy war against Azerbaijan laying territorial claims on its South Caucasus neighbor. Since a war in the early 1990s, Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions. More than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and over 1 million were displaced as a result of the large-scale hostilities.
Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding districts.
