Armenian militaries breach ceasefire with Azerbaijan

The Armenian armed units shattered ceasefire with Azerbaijan a total of 14 times throughout the day, Azerbaijan`s Defense Ministry reported on October 4.

The ceasefire was violated in Chilaburt village in Tartar region, Marzili village in Agdam region, Garakhanbayli village in Fuzuli region, Kuropatkino village in Khojavand region, as well as at nameless hills in Goranboy and Fuzuli regions.

The OSCE is expected to monitor the line of contact between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops October 5.

The monitoring will be held under the mandate of the OSCE chairperson-in-office personal representative along the line of contact near Gulustan village of Azerbaijan’s Goranboy district, said the ministry.

On the Azerbaijani side, the monitoring will be held by Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk, personal representative of the OSCE chairperson-in-office, and by Hristo Hristov and Peter Svedberg, field assistants of the OSCE chairperson-in-office personal representative.

Armenia broke out a lengthy war against Azerbaijan laying territorial claims on its South Caucasus neighbor. Since a war in the early 1990s, Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions. More than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and over 1 million were displaced as a result of the large-scale hostilities.

Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding districts.

Due to the ethnic cleansing policy carried out by Armenia and the Armenian occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions of Azerbaijan, the number of refugees and internally displaced persons hit more than 1.2 million.

With a population of over 9.6 million, Azerbaijan is among the countries carrying the highest IDP caseload in the world in per capita terms.
