Azerbaijan's referees reach high category on trampolining

By Nazrin Gadimova

Three Azerbaijani experts have become international category referees on trampolining, Azerbaijan's Gymnastics Federation reported.

This decision was made on the basis of a judicial seminar with the participation of Dmitry Polyarush, a member of the Trampoline Gymnastics Technical Committee, held in Baku in early January.

Coaches of Baku Gymnastics School Abdulla Gasimov, Adil Aliyev, and Rahib Huseynzade successfully attended the course, passed three exams, and now have the fourth judicial degree. Rahib Huseynzade also has the third international category as a judge on tumbling.

They will be able to take part in the World Cup in Switzerland, Belarus, and Portugal in summer and fall, as well as the European Championship which will to be held in early April.

Trampolining is a new kind of sport which is being developed by Azerbaijan's Gymnastics Federation. Member of the national team Ruslan Agamirov has already performed successfully at the World Cup, and ranked second at the international tournament in Belarus.

The creation and development of gymnastics in Azerbaijan dates back to the 1940s. As a result of this sport's popularization for a very short period, Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation was created in 1956.

When Azerbaijan gained independence in 1991, the National Federation of Gymnastics became a member of the International Gymnastics Federation in 1993, and the European Union of Gymnastics in 1996.

There are currently five kinds of sports in the federation: rhythmic gymnastics, men's gymnastics, acrobatic gymnastics, tumbling and trampolining.
