Azerbaijani wrestler wins silver at London Olympics
Mariya Stadnik, 48kg, an Azerbaijani woman freestyle wrestler, won an Olympic silver in London on Wednesday, in a stubborn final fight with Japanese Hitomi Obara.
Stadnik, the World and European champion, bronze medalist at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, first defeated the U.S. fighter Clarissa Kyoko Mei Ling Chun with the score of 2-0 and 3-0. in the quarterfinals she could defeate Iwona Nina Matkowska from Poland and enter the semifinal.
She defeated Ukrainian fighter Irini Merleni (1-0 and 3-0) to reach the final.
