Turkmenistan to privatize large industrial enterprises

Turkmenistan plans to privatize large enterprises in industrial, construction, transportation and communication and other spheres, the country's government reported.
The country has adopted a state program for privatization of state enterprises and facilities in 2013-2016. To date, 39 out of 89 facilities have been privatized as part of the first and second stages of the state program. It is planned to privatize 29 facilities during the third stage.
"The main goal of privatization is to transform as many enterprises as possible into a joint-stock company," Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.
He added that the decision on privatization has created favorable conditions for the successful development of the socially oriented market economy.
Turkmenistan pursues the policy of gradual transition to market economy and has taken a number of measures such as denomination of the national currency, unification of exchange rates for this purpose.
The country actively carries out privatization in the spheres of construction, communication and services.
