Airport incident in Iran raises question if country ready for big aircraft
The Zagros Airways Boeing couldn't safely land in the Hasheminejad Airport in Mashhad, Khorasan Province due to snowy runway, Mehr news agency reported January 29.
The aircraft went off the runway due to snowy surface of the runway, said Abdolreza Mousavi, an official with Zagros Airways
Mousavi said the plane was the first one to try landing at the airport after the snow, Mehr news agency reported January 29.
None of the 154 passengers suffered any major injuries, but seven of them were taken to hospital for minor contusions.
The accident caused worries if Iranian airports are ready to accommodate new-coming airplanes that are to be brought to the country.
The Boeing incident happened a few hours after Iran signed a deal with Airbus for importing 118 airplanes. The contract includes 73 big and 45 mid-size aircraft.
