Iranian Army reinforced with new home-made missiles
By Sara Rajabova
Iran has increased its defense capability with producing new home-made missiles.
Deputy Army Commander Brigadier General Kioumars Heydari said Iranian Army's Ground Force has been provided with a new home-made liquid fuel missile.
Heydari said the new missile enjoys not only the high precision against point targets but also capability of locking on targets and following them through to destruction, Iranian Tasnim news agency reported on April 28.
He went on to say that the new missile has a 300 kilometers range and more destructive power.
Noting that no name has been picked for the missile yet, Heydari said more details about the missile will be unveiled in the near future.
Heydari recently noted that Iran has tested two new missiles, while he has not disclosed the details.
He said the new missiles are superior to Naziat 10 due to its technical characteristics.
Heydari stressed that several stages must be conducted before the mass production of these missiles.
Earlier, Iran has successfully test-fired "Naziat-10" and "Fajr-5" missiles.
Naziat 10 is a short-range missile, capable of hitting targets as far as 130 km and can be launched from mobile platforms.
Fajr-5 is an artillery rocket developed by Iran in the 1990s. The system is a part of the Fajr family of rockets.
Iranian media outlets report that Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems in recent years.
Since 1992, Iran has manufactured its own tanks, armoured personnel carriers, missiles, radars, boats, submarines and fighter planes. Iran also unveiled its first domestically-manufactured long-range Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) in 2010.
Iran has always stated that its military might poses no threat to other countries, stating that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
