Quake in Iran's East Azerbaijan province injures 51
An earthquake occurred on Wednesday morning in Varzegan city of
Iran's East Azerbaijan province, Fars news agency reported.
According to the latest reports, 51 people were injured as a result
of the 5.1 magnitude quake. Most of the injured are school
children.
Earlier reports claimed only 30 people were injured. Thus far,
there are no reports on any deaths.
Five of the 51 injured people were taken to a hospital in Tabriz
city.
The reports say the quake did not ruin any houses, yet the walls
inside the houses cracked.
On August 11, East Azerbaijan province was hit by a devastating
earthquake as a result of which 306 people were killed and over
3,000 injured.
That earthquake inflicted about $900 million damage to the
industry, agriculture and service sectors of the country, according
to local officials.
