Turkish company to build power plant in Uzbekistan

Turkey is one of the important trading partners of Uzbekistan, with which economic ties are dynamically expanding and strengthening. Uzbekistan has created favorable conditions for the implementation of joint investment projects with the participation of leading Turkish companies, primarily in free economic and small industrial zones.

The meeting discussed the implementation of the investment project for the first power plant construction on the public-private partnership principles in the framework of the implementation of Presidential Decree of April 13, 2019.

The project will be implemented in the Surkhandarya region through foreign direct investment. The cost of the project is $1.2 billion. It was worked out with the assistance of the Uzbek Embassy in Turkey. It is assumed that the combined-cycle thermal power plant capacity on natural gas will be 900 MW.

Oktay noted that the company is aware of this project’s importance and intends to attract the most advanced technologies and know-how in order to build a modern power plant that meets international environmental standards.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on promising projects in the chemical industry, transport infrastructure, mining and other fields.

The foundation of Yildirim Group dates back to 1963 when Garip Yildirim established a modest construction material trading company called Garip Yildirim & Sons in Samsun, Turkey.

Since its founding, the company has continuously broadened its focus through new subsidiaries. Thanks to years of entrepreneurism and constant innovation, it has evolved into an industrially diversified group of companies as well as one of the fastest-growing Turkish industrial groups.

The second generation has been active in the company’s operations since 1980. Yildirim Group is a family-owned business, held 100 percent privately and managed by three Yildirim brothers: Ali Riza, Robert Yuksel and Mehmet Yildirim.

Since 2008, when Yildirim Group made its first international acquisition in Sweden. The company has grown to become a global force based in Istanbul, Turkey, with operations in 21 countries on four continents. Today, Yildirim Group is active in 11 sectors.

There are currently about 500 companies in Uzbekistan with Turkish capital, 100 of which are representation offices. They carry out activities in the sectors of textile, food, hotel management, building materials, plastic, medication, and services.

There are 114 companies in Turkey with Uzbek capital. More than 20 enterprises with the participation of Turkey's investments were established and 53 companies were accredited in Uzbekistan in 2018.
