Eurasia Tunnel inaugurated in Istanbul
Istanbul has hosted a ceremony of opening of the Eurasia Tunnel (Avrasya Tüneli), crossing the Bosporus Strait undersea.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister Binali Yildirim, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Azerbaijani Minister of Transport Ziya Mammadov and other officials attended the solemn ceremony.
The project cost is estimated at $1.3 billion. The tunnel’s total length is 5.4 kilometers. Its underwater part is 3.34 kilometers long.
The Eurasia Tunnel links the Kazlicesme and Goztepe districts of Istanbul and will reduce the travel time between them from over 1.5 hours to 15 minutes.
