By Aynur Jafarova
Topographical surveys have been conducted at the territory allocated for the construction of new oil and gas processing complex (OGPC) in Azerbaijan, the state energy company of Azerbaijan, SOCAR, said on December 12.
Dutch multinational company Fugro has conducted the surveys jointly with British BP and French Total.
SOCAR said conducting topographic surveys are needed to establish relevant infrastructure, in particular railway lines, roads, and pipelines for transportation of raw materials and finished products at the site.
The aerial photography of the site has already been done.
Currently the data obtained in the survey is being processed by SOCAR Foster Wheeler LLC and upon approval will be used for the next stage of the project implementation.
Around 4,200 hectares has been allocated for the construction of a new complex that will be located in 60 kilometers of Baku in the Garadagh district of Baku and the country's Absheron region.
The Heydar Aliyev Oil Refinery will stop working after the commissioning of a refinery in the new complex, which SOCAR has been scheduled for 2023-2025.
The construction of a new complex will cost $17 billion, including interest on bank loans. The complex consists of a petrochemical enterprise with a capacity of 1.7 million tons of finished products, an oil refinery with a capacity of 10 million tons per year, and a gas-processing plant with a capacity of 10 billion cubic meters per year.
The depth of oil processing at the plant will be about 95 percent, and the yield of light oil products will be 85 percent.
A thermal power plant with a capacity of 250 megawatts will also be built as part of the new complex.
