Aliyev meets BP exec
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev received BP Executive Vice
President and Deputy Chief Executive of Exploration and Production,
Andy Inglis, on Tuesday.
Inglis said that despite a crisis that has hit the region of late,
the oil giant and Azerbaijani state oil company, SOCAR, continue to
successfully cooperate in offshore production to minimize the
damage. He also said it was pivotal to ensure sufficient reserves
of gas in the country ahead of the winter season.
Challenges have emerged with shipping Azerbaijani crude to world
markets. The flow of oil through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) main
export pipeline was suspended early this month after an explosion
hit its Turkish section. Pumping crude via Georgia was cut off in
the wake of Russia`s military intervention in Georgia.
President Aliyev said the developments show that successful
cooperation between Azerbaijan and BP is possible even in crisis
situations. He said further expansion of cooperation with the
company would foster a solid ground for a successful implementation
of the planned projects.
