SOCAR upgrades system of main gas pipelines
Azerbaijan's energy giant SOCAR will conduct an overhaul of the 1,020 millimeter Hajigabul-Gazakh gas pipeline within three years, a source in SOCAR told Trend.
The decision to repair a 210-kilometer pipeline was taken on the grounds that it was built 30 years ago.
"An order for pipes has already been placed, and the pipeline will be soon repaired," the source reported.
Earlier, all gas pipelines running along the Azerbaijani territory were transferred from the Azerigas production association to the SOCAR Gas Exports Department.
The source said that the management has prepared a program on the construction and repair for 2013 and action plan for 2014-2016, under which it is planned to carry out all the work on reconstruction and modernization of the gas pipeline system.
The relevant was already launched on a 1,200 millimeter gas pipeline in the Altiagaj-Aghsu area.
According to the source, the construction and repair works are underway on more than 300 gas distribution stations and units. Also, as the process for gasification in cities, villages and towns of the country progresses, works are underway on the construction of new substations.
