Group of oil thieves nabbed in Russia's Daghestan
A criminal group stealing oil from the Baku-Novorossiysk northern
route export pipeline has been detained in Daghestan, the Russian
republic's interior ministry said.
Local police had detained a Kamaz truck filled with 18 tons of crude near the Novo-Aul village of the Maharramkand district.
An operation carried out by the law enforcers revealed the section of the conduit where the oil had been stolen. A covert 150-meter pipe with a 50 millimeter diameter was laid to the conduit from the area that belongs to the district resident Bunyad Hajirasumov to siphon oil.
Another Kamaz truck owned by Makhachkala city resident Amay Aliyev carrying 2 tons of crude was found as well.
Russian law enforcement agencies have launched a criminal case and investigation continues. If convicted, the detainees will face a 10-year jail term and a 1 million Ruble fine (about $42,000).
