Turkey welcomes OMV’s aspiration for TANAP project
Turkey welcomes Austrian OMV's aspiration to take part in the Trans Anatolian gas pipeline project (TANAP), Turkish energy minister Taner Yildiz said, Sabah newspaper reported. However, Azerbaijan has to make the final decision.
Turkish state pipeline company BOTAS currently owns 20 per cent share of TANAP with Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR having 80 per cent. SOCAR is going to retain 51 per cent of its share in TANAP whilst Turkey will hold 20 per cent.
TANAP project envisages construction of a pipeline from the eastern border of Turkey to the country's western border to supply gas from Azerbaijani Shah Deniz gas field to Europe across Turkey.
In June, Azerbaijan and Turkey signed an intergovernmental agreement on the TANAP project.
Initial capacity of the TANAP pipeline is expected to be 16 billion cubic meters per year. The link will carry 10 billion cubic meters of gas a year to the EU from the Shah Deniz deposit, while Turkey will buy 6 billion cubic meters.
