SOCAR interested in Ukraine’s oil refineries

Azerbaijani state energy company SOCAR is interested in Ukrainian oil refineries, a senior SOCAR official has said.

Vitaly Beylarbeyov, SOCAR's Deputy Vice-President, says this interest is mutual and was also expressed by the Ukrainian side -- the owners of plants and the government of Ukraine.

"As for us, we also take an interest in this matter, and we believe it is promising. However, there are no achievements in this respect yet," Beylarbeyov said.

Beylarbeyov said further that SOCAR's investments in the Ukrainian economy have now reached $130-140 million.

"Currently, on the territory of Ukraine SOCAR is engaged in retail trade in oil products and crude oil sales. We [also] have plans to increase the number of gas stations in Ukraine to 100."

SOCAR carries out its operations in Ukraine through SOCAR Energy Ukraine, its subsidiary.
