SOCAR starts construction of carbamide plant in Georgia

Groundbreaking of a carbamide plant of the Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR in the Kulevi Free Industrial Zone (FIZ) in western Georgia will be held on Tuesday, SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev told reporters on Monday. The ceremony will be attended by Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili.

According to Abdullayev, all the operations on building the carbamide plant in the neighboring country will be carried out simultaneously with the work to establish a similar enterprise in Sumgayit, about 30 km north of the Azerbaijani capital Baku.

At present, the tender announced to select a contractor for the construction of a carbamide plant in Sumgayit is nearing completion, he said. Construction work is scheduled to begin late this year.

The company which wins the tender will also work to establish a new refinery in Georgia, Abdullayev said.
