Regional states, EU to hold talks on gas supplies
Turkmenistan will host a meeting of senior energy officials of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Turkmenistan, and EU Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger. Supplies of Azerbaijani gas to Europe will be reportedly discussed at the meeting.
The spokesman for Azerbaijan's Ministry of Industry and Energy, Azer Mensimli, on Monday confirmed that Deputy Minister Natig Abbasov headed to Turkmenistan to participate in the planned talks.
The Trans Anadolu Pipeline (TANAP) pipeline project, which aims to supply gas from Shah Deniz gas field in Azerbaijan to Europe through Turkey, is interested in Turkmen gas, the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet quoted Energy Minister Taner Yildiz as saying. It will be discussed during the talks in Turkmenistan.
Also, the transportation of Turkmen gas via Azerbaijan is possible by building a pipeline under the Caspian Sea -- dubbed the Trans-Caspian pipeline -- which envisions transit gas supplies from Turkmenistan to European markets.
