Former US envoy appointed head of Turcas governing body

Former US ambassador to Azerbaijan Matthew Bryza has been appointed chairman of the Corporate Governance Committee of Turkish fuel distribution company Turcas, the company`s website said last Thursday.

Turcas and the Azerbaijani state oil firm Socar were shareholders in the Petkim petrochemical company. Then Socar bought shares of Turcas, becoming the majority shareholder in Petkim.

Earlier, Socar-Turcas started construction of a new oil refinery in Turkey, which aims to meet Petkim`s needs for raw materials.

Matthew Bryza`s mission as US ambassador to Azerbaijan ended in late December 2011. Bryza previously served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State.
