Shah Deniz II to decide on bids by end-March-Turkey
The consortium developing Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz II gas field will decide by end-March which of three consortia - Nabucco, TAP, and ITGI - will build the infrastructure to carry gas to Europe, Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said on Thursday, Reuters reported.
He told Reuters in an interview that if Turkey goes ahead with the construction of the Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline (TANAP), revisions will need to be made to the routes and tariffs of the Nabucco, TAP and ITGI projects.
"At this point the consortium will look into tariffs and evaluate accordingly. An offer from Nabucco, TAP and ITGI projects could be accepted. TANAP could be selected to carry the natural gas," said Yildiz.
Nabucco, TAP, and ITGI are competing to build the infrastructure to carry gas from the giant field to Europe.
Producers in the Shah Deniz II field, led by BP and Statoil, plan to ship around 16 billion cubic meters a year through Turkey into Europe from 2017 or 2018.
Yildiz added that ground breaking on the TANAP project was projected to be at end-2013, with operation beginning in 2017 and with capacity at 30 billion cubic metres (bcm).
