Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan agree to build oil refinery
Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan have reached general agreement to start construction of an oil refinery in Kyrgyzstan with a capacity of 2 million tons per year. The oil refinery is to be commissioned in late 2013.
The agreement on launching construction work was reached on Thursday at a meeting of Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev and head of Azerbaijani state oil company Socar Rovnag Abdullayev, the Kyrgyz president’s press service reported.
The Socar head has visited the Central Asian state to meet with its leaders on behalf of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
The Kyrgyz president instructed his energy minister to provide full support for the construction of the oil refinery, which will allow to diversify supply of oil products to Kyrgyzstan.
Abdullayev said a group of Azerbaijani specialists will be sent to Kyrgyzstan soon to examine prospects for construction of the oil refinery and a start of Socar’s operation in Kyrgyzstan's energy sector.
Discussions also focused on supply of crude oil and oil products from Azerbaijan, as well as prospects for oil exploration and production in Kyrgyzstan.
