Eurozone crisis not to affect Azeri gas exports: Socar
The debt crisis in Europe will have no impact on the selection of a route for exporting Azerbaijani gas, head of the Azerbaijani state energy firm Socar Rovnag Abdullayev told the press Tuesday.
On October 1, 2011, the pipeline projects designed to transport Azerbaijani gas to European markets that are part of the Southern Gas Corridor – Nabucco, Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) and Interconnector Turkey-Greece-Italy (ITGI) -- submitted their final proposals to Azerbaijan. The consortium developing Azerbaijan’s Shahdaniz gas condensate field, which has estimated reserves of 1.2 trillion cubic meters, is considering possible routes.
Abdullayev said the criteria for selecting the best route include the price of gas, solvency of the countries to be crossed by the pipeline and low transit fees.
Abdullayev confirmed the plans to select the preferred transportation route till the end of the first quarter of 2012.
The Southern Gas Corridor is a priority EU energy project diversifying energy supply routes and sources and increasing EU energy security. Shahdaniz gas is considered the main gas source for these projects.
