FM: Azerbaijan can access Europe with bigger gas volumes
Azerbaijan can access European markets with bigger volumes of gas and is negotiating with the European Commission on different ways of delivering it, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said in an interview with the Bloomberg TV channel.
Mammadyarov said that all the options on Azerbaijani gas supplies to Europe are on the table, and the decision on the best one can probably be made early next year.
The projects within the Southern Gas Corridor (Nabucco, TAP and ITGI), which aim to transport gas to be produced during the second stage of developing Shahdaniz, Azerbaijan’s largest gas field in the Caspian Sea, have already submitted their proposals on delivering gas to European markets to Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan plans to supply 10 billion cubic meters per year to Europe.
Mammadyarov said that "if everything goes smoothly", including technical issues, first Azerbaijani gas can reach European markets in 2018-2020.
He noted that recently Azerbaijan has signed all necessary documents with Turkey, including the transit agreement.
"And now we have to define a route how to supply bigger volumes of gas not only to Turkey but also to the European market," Mammadyarov said.
