RWE hopes for Shah Deniz consortium’s timely decision

German RWE, which is one of the shareholders of Nabucco gas pipeline project, hopes for a timely decision from Azerbaijani Shah Deniz gas condensate field development consortium, German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung quotes the company's chief commercial officer Leonhard Birnbaum as saying, Bloomberg reported.

"A decision must now be taken to avoid creating additional costs and threatening the pipeline's start of operations planned for 2013," Birnbaum said.

Gas, which will be produced during the second stage of Shah Deniz field development is considered as the main source for the projects within the Southern gas Corridor (Nabucco, TAP and ITGI), designed to transport Azerbaijani gas to the European countries.

On Oct. 1, all three pipeline projects submitted their final proposals to the Azerbaijani side, which review them in accordance with previously announced criteria, including commercial attractiveness, ability for project realization from the technical and financial point of view, engineering and design work, management, coordination and transparency, the possibility of a phased scale-up and other criteria.

The decision on the preferable transportation route is expected in the nearest future.

Within Shah Deniz-2 project, Azerbaijan is planning to deliver 10 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe.
