Azeri-Turkish gas transit talks to end this month: official

BAKU – Azerbaijan's state energy firm Socar will hold another round of talks with Turkey this week on the transit of Azerbaijani natural gas to Europe via the neighboring country, Socar official Vagif Aliyev told the press Monday.

"We have already had a round [of talks] this month," he said. "This week will see another stage of talks. The negotiations will be completed by the end of September."

Aliyev said the full range of issues are under discussion.

"These include both commercial and legal issues and legislation. This is a new role for Turkey, because it has never been a transit country, which requires making changes to its internal procedures."

The Socar official said "the main trading principles" of gas transit were agreed with Turkey in June 2010.
