169m tons of BTC oil exported to date: BP
BAKU – 169 million tons (1.261 billion barrels) of oil pumped through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) main export pipeline have been exported to world markets from the Turkish Mediterranean port of Ceyhan as of August 22 since the conduit was commissioned in June 2006, according to BP Azerbaijan.
In the first half of 2011, the BTC pipeline transported about 18.2m tons, or 135.7m barrels, of oil.
So far, the BTC’s highest daily throughput capacity was 1.044 million barrels per day. The conduit’s maximum capacity is 1.2m bpd.
The 1,768 km pipeline transports oil produced from Azerbaijan’s Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) block of fields in the Caspian Sea, condensate from the country’s giant offshore Shahdaniz field, as well as Turkmenistan’s crude.
The pipeline, operated by the international consortium BTC Co, allows to export crude from the oil-rich Caspian Sea without increasing tanker traffic through the crowded Turkish Straits.
