Rosneft-BP deal to be in spotlight at Davos – Kremlin aide

(RIA Novosti, January 21) – The unprecedented share-swap between the Russian and British oil giants Rosneft and BP will be highly discussed at the Davos Economic Forum next week, the Russian president's top economics adviser said on Friday.

Arkady Dvorkovich was talking about the $16 billion deal the two companies sealed a week ago. The companies also agreed to jointly develop oil and gas fields in the Russian Arctic.

"I am sure that the deal between Rosneft and BP will be at the center of discussion at the Davos forum [on January 26-30]," Dvorkovich told a RIA Novosti news conference on President Dmitry Medvedev's trip to the annual forum in Switzerland.

Dvorkovich said Medvedev did not think the huge interest in the Rosneft-BP deal would steal the limelight from Russia's modernization program at the forum, arguing that the energy sector should be the driving force in modernizing the economy and developing innovation in the country.

"The Rosneft-BP deal is important for partnership and joint projects, but it will also make it possible for Rosneft to learn and borrow from the experience of a leading global company," Dvorkovich said.
