BP suspends oil output from ACG platform

BAKU – Oil giant BP, which operates Azerbaijan’s major Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) fields in the Caspian Sea, has suspended oil production from the Chirag platform over technical security, BP Azerbaijan said Wednesday.

"Testing at Chirag revealed that the fire protection system needs repair. Production at the platform was therefore suspended and repair of fire protection equipment began," the company said, adding that the platform, suspended last Saturday, will be back on track after the refurbishment work has been completed.

BP Azerbaijan also said the other ACG platforms are being operated as before.

The ACG fields produce most of Azerbaijan’s oil. The BP-operated Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, which runs through Georgia and Turkey, is transporting oil extracted at the fields to world markets.

ACG participating interests are: BP (37.4%), Chevron (11.3%), SOCAR (10%), INPEX (11%), Statoil (8.6%), ExxonMobil (8%), TPAO (6.7%), ITOCHU (4.3%) and Hess (2.7%).
