New offer to export Turkmen gas to Europe
BAKU – A new proposal have been made on exporting Turkmenistan’s gas to European markets, the Azerbaijani energy minister said after meeting his Turkish and Turkmen counterparts in Istanbul Wednesday.
Natig Aliyev told the Baku-based ANS TV channel, after the ministerial that discussed exports of Caspian oil and gas to Europe through Turkey, that some companies have offered transporting Turkmen compressed gas by tankers instead of using a pipeline under the Caspian Sea.
"For example, [Italy's] ENI has submitted a project to us. It envisions delivering compressed gas to Azerbaijan from Turkmenistan and transporting it. We believe that compressed gas can be delivered by tankers. It would be very interesting to hold a meeting to explore these options."
