SOCAR to build gas network at Georgian Black Sea port
TBILISI – SOCAR Georgia Gas Ltd, a subsidiary of Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR in neighboring Georgia, has announced its readiness to launch a project on building the gas network of the Georgian Black Sea port of Poti.
The CEO of SOCAR Energy Georgia, Mr. Mahir Mammadov, said the company had completed work over the project, which was first announced early in May, and that currently they were working to leverage the needed resources.
"We will strive to complete gas supplies as early as in 2010, before the commissioning of the Senaki-Poti main gas pipeline," Mammadov was quoted as saying.
The gas pipeline is being built at the expense of the Georgian government.
SOCAR intends to construct a gas network of Poti by laying 158km long gas lines this year. After its completion, the town’s network will have 21,000 new consumers.
Under the three-year program, to run until 2011, SOCAR is planning to build a gas network of 174 sites in Georgia, including 30 towns and districts.
