Landmark deal ‘to boost Turkey’s clout in energy markets’
The gas agreement signed by Azerbaijan and Turkey this week will strengthen Ankara’s positions in world energy markets, says George Friedman, Chief Executive of Stratfor, an influential US think-tank.
"The agreement between Azerbaijan and Turkey is crucial, and it changes everything," Friedman said.
According to Friedman, the agreement will eliminate Turkey’s reliance on Russia and bolster its positions. Moreover, it opens a new page in the relations between Azerbaijan and the United States, he said.
The head of Stratfor, a private global intelligence firm he founded in 1996, spent almost twenty years in academia prior to joining the private sector. During this time, Friedman also regularly briefed senior commanders in the armed services, the U.S. Army War College and other institutions on security and national defense matters.*
